I think this was the first concert / show that I've been to in Jamaica amazingly. I tried to go to one other but it was rained out. The US ambassador bought some tickets to be used by volunteers and I was one of the lucky recipients. The show was put on by The Rotary Club of Spanish Town to benefit "The Medical Association of Jamaica and a Multi-Skills Youth Training Center" to quote from my ticket stub.

I arrived at the Cherry Gardens residence after the show had begun. Being all inclusive, there were free drinks and free catered food. The was a large variety of food which is rare for me in Jamaica. Italian and Asian were the only I got to try due to the long lines but there was also Caribbean and others I can't remember.

The music was a great mix of some fast and slow, some with lyrics and others instrumental. The last act was not really jazz but very entertaining. The singer was a great performer and came down into the crowd as you would expect. I can't remember his name and it's not on the ticket with the others surprisingly so I can only say that his backup band was called "The True Democrats" and they were from Canada. They did the requisite Bob Marley and some Tom Jones and other classic hits.

I wasn't able to find much on Google about the different acts but I'll list them here:

  • The Green House Effect
    • Desi Jones
    • Rupert Bent Snr.
    • Dale Brown
    • Jon Williams
  • Sabrina Williams
  • The Hird Brothers
  • Dr. Kathy Brown
  • Barbara Cadet
  • Mark Pritchett
  • Secrets Small
  • MC Michael Anthony Cuffe
The last time I was in Cherry Gardens I met Miss Jamaica World 2003, so I was hoping for another exciting story but not this time. Just some nice food, people and music.
