Hi Everyone, I think my list got screwed up so I may have not had everyone on the first mailing list. I only have a few minutes to write right now because I'm on the university computers. We're staying for the first week at the University of The West Indies. It's pretty nice. No windows, just slats in the dorm rooms. Still getting used to the humidity. I will be getting a cell phone soon and incoming calls are free for me, so I'll get the number to anyone who can call. Of course I'll be pretty busy so I can't talk all the time. After this coming Tuesday, we will be going to our training sites. I can't remember the name of the town I will be going to, but it's not too far west of Kingston. Last night was pretty cool. The Peace Corps Jamaica director was here, also the Mayor of Kingston, a diplomat from the Embassy, and the coolest of all was the Jamaican Drum Team. Those guys were the coolest thing I have seen in a very long time. They are like a mix of African/Jamaican culture and do drums and dance. It was amazing! Well, I'll probably go out to the Student Union tonight for hopefully a party. There was a big one last night, but most of us were too tired to go. Still hearin a lot of american music: eminem, jay z, country, but some reggae too. So far so great! -Oliver |
